Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) have announced in the March 2018 issue of
Total Licensing
that Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles bring not only an all-new look and new weapons, but also NEW WORLDS! 🐢
Hmm… Any guesses as to what that might mean? Will the Turtles find themselves in other dimensions? Will they explore alternate realities and adventure in other worlds?
Dimension X? (Let me know if it is in the comments!)
This is just another random anekdote about the fandom I have been in the longest. THe TMNT fandom. It is kinda a way to cancel out the hate Rise of The TMNT has gotten. YES!! I am excited for Rise of The TMNT. Yes! I love the designs and the fact that the turtles are different species of Turtle. Yes!!! I love black April.
But that is not what the post is about. This is my history with four mutant turtle borthers. That also happen to be ninjas. Also I highly implore y’all to give Rise of The TMNT a fair chance before judging it.
So my story starts at the young age of 4. This was back when VHS tapes were still a thing. They came in cases like this
Except mine was in a plastic, neon green case. My mom had bought me a whole stack of TMNT VHS tapes from a thrift store not so far from where we lived. I remeber lookign at the cases thinking “This looks funny”. So I popped the first tape in the VHS player and started watching. Like that I was hooked. I wanted more. So mom bought me some used TMNT action figures. I played with them alot. I vaguely remember Mikey losing his one hand into the toilet.
Oh yeah did I mention Mikey became my favorite immideately. If I didn’t I have now. There was somethign about Mikey’s party on, carefree attitude that drew me to him.
(Here is a pic of me posing with my Mikey plush. Had to re-take this
many times
cuz either the angle was wrong or it was somehow blurry)
I have to remind you when I first started
watchign TMN was during a time where girls weren’t allowed to like TMNT (among othe masculine things) only boys. Thus this was one of many reasons why I got bullied in school. But the bullies never made my love for TMNT fade.
Anyways when I was a few years older I started watchign the 2003 TMNT series. I remember loving that too. Heck I have loved TMNT since the original series form the 80s.
I guess that’s the end of the story. So please watch Rise of the TMNT this year.
Meet the first African-American April in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first look!
Nickelodeon will offer up a new animated series about the crime-fighting crew with emerging ninja powers later this year. Right now, though, you can get a peek at the characters who are voiced by some familiar names — and they come with a few twists…
April O’Neil
The first African-American April O’Neil — a savvy New Yorker and first human ally of the turtles — is played by Kat Graham!
Donatello
Soft-shell turtle and tech hero Donatello (Josh Brener) rocks a tech-bo staff and impressive coding skills.
Leonardo
Leonardo (Ben Schwartz) is a red-eared slider who boasts “irreverent charm and a rebel heart.” Weapon of choice: ōdachi sword.
Michelangelo
Box turtle/skateboarder/artist Michelangelo (Brandon Mychal Smith) is the youngest brother — and dangerous with a kusari-fundo.
Raphael
Raphael (Omar Miller) is now the leader and oldest brother, a snapping turtle who brandishes twin tonfas as his weapons.
Splinter
Splinter (Eric Bauza) is part father figure, all sensei to the turtles!
I made a Perler Bead Michelangelo. So proud of.how it came out. Booyakasha & Cowabunga.
