So San Diego Comic-Con has come and gone and with SDCC came many great trailers for upcoming shows and movies such as the season 3 trailer for Voltron Legendary Defender and Stranger Things Season 2. But the one trailer that got me excited was this one…..
Rocko’s Modern Life!!!
Why am I so excited well let me tell you.
When I was a kid there was only two channels I watched. Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. I watched PPG, Edd, Ed n Eddy and Courage on CN but I remember Rocko’s Modern Life being one of my many favorite shows on Nick growing up. I loved it so much that when it was on I never let anyone else in the living room.I didn’t let anyone lese watch TV until it was finished (unless it was a double episode) I remember singing to the opening theme so vividly.
Now one episode I remember very vividly was one episode was this….
Now for the newer generation that was unfortunate to not grow up with his beautiful cartoon here is a bit of context. Rocko had lost his job and as one always do he was looking for a new job. He got a job at a hotline. As you can hear Rocko’s saying” Oh baby. oh baby. Oh baby” to a client who was his neighbours wife Mrs. Bighead which leads to both of them hanging up in embarrassment. Now notice the sign saying “ Remember. Be Hot. Be NAUGHTY. Be Courteous”. What does that mean? Well Rocko was workign at a sex hotline.
Since I was a kid I never understood the joke being Rocko working oon a sex hotline.
THIS was a kids cartoon in the 90s. How did they get away with this. Well my theory is censorship wasn’t as tough as it is in today’s cartoons. But this was considered funny back in the day.
I loved cartoons like this growing up and I am happy to see some of them coming back…well almost (looking at you PPG reboot). Now what I hope for this movie is that it will garner enough popularity to become a full fledge series agian. I mean if Samurai Jack can then so can Rocko.
Now I really hope the reboot movie Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling will have the same crudeness, the same adult jokes that kids won’t get just like the original cartoon. I want to thank Nickelodeon for bringing a huge part of my childhood back. Now Imma leave the intro of the old cartoon to end this long drabble that probably ahs many typos.
