me: [hasn’t got nearly enough skills to draw characters consistently]
me: [still can’t draw backgrounds]
me: [can’t finish projects to save my own life]
also me: i wanna make a webcomic
Just make it. Trust me, there’s no harm in trying, and if you keep waiting to reach a certain skill level, you’ll have wasted time. A comic of any kind is a fantastic way to improve your skills in all the ways you feel you’re lacking in, and you can’t expect complete artistic perfection in any comic, especially if it’s your first one. By all means, prepare to make the comic in any way you deem necessary, but if the only thing holding you back is your perceived lack of artistic or writing skill, just jump right in. Even if you only get six pages in, at least you tried! And chances are, if you have an idea you’re passionate about enough to even consider making a comic, you’ll go pretty far with it. The internet is host to tons of people’s first webcomics(including my own), and there’s a whole community out there willing to help you along, and even more out there who would enjoy your creation.
i’m really glad so many people have added positive and encouraging feedback to this post it definitely helps a ton !!
This is literally the reason why I started my comic. I knew I wanted to be a storyboard artist, and comics work in a similar way. I was kinda scared, but it’s so worth it in the end. And once you get into it, you never wanna stop.
