Hi Tom. I have a dilemma I don’t know who to turn to with. I have been thinking a lot about going into gay rights, feminism and animal rights, but whenever I think about it I come to the same conclusion: Why should I care? I’m dying. The day when homophobia is but a memory and women can walk safely in the nights I will be long dead of a chronic heart-disease. I won’t have time to make a real impact. I’ve been prioritizing myself, and I’m morally conflicted about it. What do you think I should do

:

Sorry you’re dying, pal. That’s some grade-A bullshit right there.

I honestly can’t make any decisions for you but I’ll spew my opinions and you can take from them what you wish.

I believe the meaning of life is all about your legacy. In the end we all die and people forget about us. However, the affect we have on the world lives on in the teachings and attitudes of those we inspire. Personally, I want my legacy to be that I inspired and enabled some great filmmakers; helped a number of people work through their issues; and did my part, however small, in tackling prejudice.

Having lost a close friend and witnessing the affects of his legacy first hand really put that all into perspective for me. Seeing all the people he’d inspired and motivated and entertained was just… Comforting. It truly felt like he hadn’t lived for nothing.

Ultimately though it’s your life and you should do whatever makes you happy… as long as it doesn’t involve hurting anyone else of course, heh.
